(6) San Diego State defeated (9) Florida Atlantic 72 to 71

(4) UConn defeated (5) Miami 72 to 59

The most exciting game of the weekend goes to (6) San Diego State’s win over (9) Florida Atlantic, with Lamont Butler hitting a jumper at the buzzer to lift the Aztecs over (9) Florida Atlantic 72-71 sending them to the championship game on Monday night. The Aztecs second half defense really was the story of the game, holding the Owls to just 8 shots in the second half, and only 2 points in the last 7 ½ minutes. ESPN described Lamont Butlers game winning shot as “iconic.”

(4) UConn handily defeated (5) Miami 72-59 causing 9 turnovers and held (5) Miami to just 33% shooting. (5) Miami Hurricane coach Jim Larranaga put it simply to his players after the loss “sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.” The Hurricanes had been an amazing 13-2 over their last 15 games. The Huskies never trailed in the game, getting off to an impressive 9-0 start to the game. This will be the first Championship appearance for (6) San Diego State while (4) UConn has claimed the national championship 4 times, their last win in 2014.
